![]() ![]() It appears that my Magnavox DVR/DVDR, which I purchased new 9 months ago, is capable of playing both PAL and NTSC formats, although the manual says it is only capable of playing NTSC. My Magnavox DVR/DVDR plays them both perfectly - no distortion at all. I have 2 DVDs sent to me by a friend in the UK that are also definitely PAL but are region free. ![]() My Magnavox DVR/DVDR will not play them, gives me a Region code error. I have 2 DVDs I purchased in the UK that are definitely PAL and locked to Region 2. Interestingly, the main menu video clip does display on my TV with minor visual distortion - but the episodes are crystal clear. I scanned several with a few other disc utilities, and they all say the discs are in PAL format. However, AnyDVD says the discs are in PAL format. I have never seen another case like it.īut you may be correct, it may be a pirated copy intentionally or accidentally rendered in NTSC format. So other than the Latin American market, there doesn't appear to be much gain in producing a pirated version in NTSC format.Īlso, the case is quite distinctive and exactly matches the case displayed on the rtve.es site. The rights have been acquired by a British company, but they have not yet released an English language version. The program is in Spanish with only Spanish subtitles for the Deaf. This program only recently finished broadcasting in Spain, and the only places where I could find a copy were rtve.es and amazon.es. I purchased the DVD directly from rtve.es in Spain, and the package had their return address. But this is a mystery I would like to solve. I have cloned all the discs, and they all play perfectly on my American DVD player and TV. I have a Samsung 6500 LED TV that I bought at Sam's Club, and its manual says nothing at all about NTSC vs PAL, but I assumed it was NTSC only when I bought it. I have a Magnavox MDR535H DVR-DVDR and the manual says it will not play PAL format discs, but it obviously does once the region code is removed. Can anyone explain why these cloned PAL discs play on an NTSC TV? It played perfectly on my American TV with no distortion at all. I put the cloned disc in my US Region 1 DVD player and played it. I cloned Disc 1 using AnyDVD and CloneDVD. ![]() It would have taken me days and days to re-render all 15 discs with 42 episodes using the above method, so I decided to run a test. However, I recently purchased the 15-disc series "Isabel" - a Spanish production. This is time consuming, but it works and produces a high-quality result. I have always used AnyDVD to remove the region code, and then re-rendered the video in NTSC using Vegas Movie Studio and re-authored the DVD in DVD Architect (both Sony products). ![]() Occasionally I purchase a PAL Region 2 DVD that is not available in NTSC format.
